I wanted to say more about this game last time but as soon as this blog thing fires up -(bam)- can’t remember what I was about. So, before I forget, more details, starting off with a story.
The character in game walks the shady streets of, say late 19th century megapolis (where telephone in every house is almost a certain future). He is hit over head with a mace or some heavy instrument of bludgeoning and thrown into the hole which leads to sewers and connects to series of complex (and complicated) canals below the city. So, the body floats away, naturally, until it finally ends up on the shore of the dungeon. Dungeons, or even whole cities, living and operating underground is something every major city in the world has in common and many do claim that such places are more than urban myth or as real as the tales or rumors might suggest.
So, trapped in such a place, the main quest is to find the way out. And maybe upon finding the way out, to write some memoirs of the journey or perhaps make it in a way of moving pictures (a popular way of entertainment nowadays). Everything else that happens in dungeon, stays in dungeon. There is no law in this underground world which is populated by all sorts of creatures. Most of denizens of the dungeon were born ‘down there’ (if you pardon the expression), some were brought against their will while many others found in dungeons much needed seclusion, space or enough freedom away from the gripping laws or morals of modern society ‘upstairs’.
That would include different kinds of outlaws, explorers, mad scientists, serial killers, opium dealers, etc. There are also ‘tourists’, usually very rich people who pay to visit the dungeons either for the exotic safari travel into the exciting and unknown world or to indulge themselves freely in activities one might deem as somewhat decadent.

I think that sums up the idea behind this game, for the most part. It should really be more about adventuring, exploring and meeting all sorts of nebulous characters and locations rather than just fixing quests or defeating bosses. There will be quests, of course, as someone always seems to loose a wedding ring in the sewers and such, which needs immediate attention.
For the most part, the quests should be short trips to get a few tasks done in order to make some money/get better weapons and some experience to make traveling easier or less dangerous. Most of the world (dungeons) is open right from the start but some parts are better explored later as they are infinitely more dangerous. A few dungeons are off limits, locked, or hidden at the beginning as well.

There are no bosses, or what is traditionally a creature which has ‘current player level + three times more stronger + pattern of attack’ kind of a thing. There are ‘leaders’, of course, but none of them in traditional ‘Boss’ way as mentioned. These guys are usually weaklings who lack the physical strength but compensate with their ability to spam on twitter, to influence their followers with money/goods which equals power in the eyes of some people, as usual. Of course, there are many wretched and pathetic ones who simply find any bozo with some money to be *distinguished* and, like dogs, follow them around, in hope for the bone to be thrown in their direction.

‘The dungeon’ is actually composed of two major cities (Strutter Town and Hades) with several smaller towns around them and several dungeons in between (and some hidden and locked ones). Obviously, these places are dangerous or danjerous (dunjerous actually) to traverse as there’s a lot of creatures roaming about the damp, dark and gloomy streets. The attacks (so far as implemented) happen by rolling the dice of player ex level+luck+location in order to spawn different kind of monstrosity. Each place has three different ‘danger level’ locations (not color coded, phew), so shadier or less frequented areas will bring thieves, for example, or a serial killer (there are some on the loose) or some nightmarish experiment or another. Areas closer to the shops or where there’s at least some sort of human activity will result in lesser creatures taking their chances, either mindless ones (some lunatic or another) or smaller ones (rats, bats, etc.).
Now, this is all fun to play with and hopefully, or eventually, the game will someday be finished too. However, in case things explode, I’ll make one of them games you play with a dice and a piece of paper. That insures that no bugs or other computer related stuff come into play, which is terribly annoying thing about computer games anyway.

A few things implemented so far (besides movement and interaction with things/interface) -

1-inventory/items pick/drag/drop and equip character
2-automap shows discovered shops/places too
3-item use/modification to character skills or health (positive/negative) + description
4-random enemy attack based on location/luck/exp level
5-basic npc talk/barter interaction

For you who don’t have the iphone but might have DS, some more Arsenal is in the store.
I played this kickass version the other day which has seen quite a few changes lately. One of them is a new terrain, guessing procedurally generated (looks spanky) and some more crazier patterns. Anyhoo, it’s a blast so far and the way the ship zooms in(to) the scene gives me that ‘gonnagerrem!’ effect every time, hehe.

Another one on DS (anyone have these anymore??), Smealum is messing about Arsenal and possible maybe to be on thy iphone at some point, it’s a shmup galore on DS — check it out at smealums (comes with somekinda editor as well to mess around with). Oh, congratulations for the 1st place in competition which ended up today actually. Also to guys behind Waimanu, congratulations for the first or first second, I didn’t get the whole’ two first places’ but who cares.

Now, blog business is not for a teenage caveman of my kind but gotta work with it. I don’t plan to do much anyway, just smallish otherworldsies here and there. Well, Ok I am working on this little (lil? mybutt lil!) game with an owl but that might take quite a while and might explode in the meantime as it is a highly volatile experiment.

Oh, forgot, I got new ansi drawing in the gallery, been sooooo long since I’ve finished one.  Have to make more time for these in the future.
